Nasrudin and weeping and laughing

The villagers had found a compass in the desert. They brought to Nasrudin who was the wisest person in the county. They asked him what it was. Nasrudin looked it over, smelled it, played with it and started crying at first. After weeping for a few minutes he started to examine the compass one more time and then he burst out laughing so loud that he fell down from his chair.

The villagers asked him what was going on. The Mullah replied I cried out of pity for you who obviously do not understand the purpose of this instrument. Then I laughed when I discovered that I did not know what it was for either.

Here Nasrudin shows the correct attitude toward others and self. He has compassion for others and a sense of humility and humor toward self.
