Mullah Nasrudin and the precedent

Mullah Nasrudin borrowed his neighbor’s pot and returned it a week later with a small pot. He told the neighbor, "Your pot was pregnant and had a baby, here it is."

Next week he did the same, borrowed the pot and returned it with the baby pot.

Next week he borrowed the pot again. The neighbor handed it over happily.

Three days later Mullah Nasrudin rushed to the neighbor’s house and knocked on the door loudly. The neighbor came out to be confronted by a frantic Nasrudin.

The Mullah said, "I have bad news for you. Your pot died in labor."

The neighbor exclaimed, "Are you crazy? Pots don’t get pregnant."

Nasrudin said, "We already established the precedent that pots get pregnant. You have the babies. If they get pregnant, they can die in child birth."

The above teaching story needs no explanation. I do think it may be important in these days to think about Karma, and precedence. Unfortunately many negative precedents were set in the last eight years (Jan 2001 –  Jan 2009) and it may take many years to reestablish the rule of law in international relationships.
